The third generation of Worms games re-introduces 2D games, after four years of 3D games. This generation introduces the first Worms games for smartphones and tablets. The third generation consists of Worms Open Warfare, Worms (2007), Worms Open Warfare 2, Worms: A Space Oddity, Worms 2: Armageddon, Worms Reloaded and Worms Battle Islands.
Worms Open Warfare

Worms Open Warfare is the first game exclusively developed for handheld devices. It was released on the PSP and the Nintendo DS.

Worms (2007) is an enhanced version of Worms Open Warfare created for the Xbox360, PlayStation 3 and iOS. It is the first Worms game playable on a smartphone or tablet.

Worms: A Space Oddity

Worms: A Space Oddity was released for the Nintendo Wii and mobile devices (JME, MIDP2). For the Nintendo Wii, it features motion controls for using weapons and utilities. It features exclusive gameplay-altering elements such as permanent lower gravity.
Worms 2: Armageddon

Worms 2: Armageddon was first released on Xbox Live Arcade. It was later released on PlayStation Network, iOS and Android. It was later re-released for PC, named Worms Reloaded.

Worms Reloaded is a re-released version of Worms 2: Armageddon created for PC. It was released in 2010. It is the first 2D Worms game for the PC since Worms World Party in 2001.
Worms Battle Islands

Worms Battle Islands is the second and latest game released on the Nintendo Wii. It was also released on the PSP. Players can choose to not use motion controls on the Nintendo Wii, unlike Worms: A Space Oddity.
